Governor in favour of WHS and ALG at Ziro

Gyati Kacho

ITANAGAR, May 12:  'I congratulate the people of Apatani Plateau for having got the 'Apatani Cultural Landscape' enlisted into the Tentative List of UNESCO's World Heritage status. Raj Bhawan will help in every possible manner and request the State Govt. to help in preparation of the 'Dossier', said Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma to a delegation of Apatani Youth Association (AYA), which called on him at Raj Bhawan here today.

The 'Apatani Cultural Landscape' has been in the news recently for having made it to the probable list of the 55 sites selected from across India in the Tentative List of the World Heritage Sites. Now, a 'dossier' will have to be prepared by the state Govt. for onward submission to Centre, which in turn will forward it to UNESCO in Paris. UNESCO finally will decide the sites selected for WHS. The entire process is expected to take five to eight years.

Terming Ziro as a potential hub of tourism, Governor advised AYA to enlighten the civil society on the issues concerning tourism. "Civil society is the biggest strength and they will have to be made aware and sensitized if Ziro is to be promoted at the international level. Ziro as I hear, is famed for 'Eco-Tourism' and 'Home Stays' among others. The 'Paddy-cum-Fish Culture' is also a unique practice of Ziro plateau and I would advise for its patent", he said. Appreciating the efforts of AYA on taking up environmental related issues and organizing a 'WHS for Ziro Marathon Race' at Ziro on 19 th of this month with the theme-'TO KNOW PLASTIC, SAY NO TO PLASTIC', the Governor said that preventing ecological degradation is the need of the hour for which civil society must be made aware and treated as equal partners on the issue. He also asked his secretary to request the tourism department to help in successful conduct of the event.

On the 'Advance Landing Ground' (ALG) at Ziro, the Governor said that landing of fixed winged aircrafts would benefit all specially the tourists. 'Of the 8 ALG's in the state, the one at Ziro is one of the best and I want that the project should be completed on time. For this, I appeal the public to co-operate and let the project be completed on time'.

On being apprised by AYA president that there was no provision for a 'civilian terminal' at the present ALG and no further scope of land donation by the locals, the Governor said that there was a need of vision and people have to make sacrifices in the interest of future generations. 'We have to learn to make some sacrifices in the larger interest and for the sake of our future generations', he said. On another alternative request that the existing IAF Officer's Mess could instead be used for the civilian terminal on account of acute scarcity of land in the vicinity, the Governor informed that he will speak to the IAF authority to hammer out a solution in the matter.

On the request of AYA to come and visit the Apatani Plateau, the Governor expressed happiness and said that he would love to visit the plateau during one of its festivals.

The 5-member AYA delegation led by President Taku Chatung presented a traditional Apatani shawl to the Governor and had a fruitful half an hour discussion on various other issues concerning the Apatani Plateau.

East Siang  for successful implementation of Health Insurance scheme

PASIGHAT, May 12: 'Health an implicit right under constitution' stated the East Siang Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava while interacting with the officers, leaders and insurance personnel of 'New India Assurance (NIA) Co. Ltd' in a consultative meeting held today in the Siang Guest House conference hall to chalk out the final plan to implement the Health Insurance Scheme, launched in the state on Feb 20 last. Among others, ZPC Kaling Dai, Chief Councilor (PMC) Denong Tamuk, Dr. Kabang Lego JDHS, Dr. D Bagra DMO, medical officers, municipal councilors, PRI leaders and insurance personnel of NIA were present.

In her address to the house, the DC said, it is a unique scheme which provides financial protection to the families living in the state upto Rs. 2 lakhs in a year for the treatment of serious ailments requiring hospitalization and surgery. According to her, illness represents a threat to the people's earning and poor families often ignore it because of lack of resources, fearing wage loss, or wait till the last moment when it's too late. Ignoring the treatment may lead to unnecessary suffering and death. Even if they decide to get the desired health care it consumes their savings, forces them to sell their assets or cut other important spending like children's education, she added. To avoid such tragic outcomes the scheme was launched and every family can avail cashless hospitalization (upto Rs. 2 Lacs per annum) through a smart card in any of the empanelled hospitals located in Arunachal Pradesh, Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Vellore, informed Srivastava. She exhorted all the councilors, PRI leaders and GBs to extend co-operation for successful enrolment of beneficiaries for the scheme.

ZPC Kaling Dai, Chief Councillor Denong Tamuk, JDHS Dr. K Lego, DMO D Bagra and Dr. Arun Borgohain, Regional Manager (NIA) and their team members who were present in the house, discussed about the enrolment process and preparation of smart card etc so that the scheme could be implemented at the earliest possible in true spirit. BJP seems to have edge

If exit polls are to be believed Narendra Modi is set to become the next Prime Minister of country as BJP and its allies are forecast to sweep to a parliamentary majority in the world's biggest ever election.  India's staggered voting, spread over five weeks to reach the country's 815 million voters and move security forces around its varied terrain, ended this evening at 6 PM. Actual results are due on May 16. Research group C-Voter predicted 289 seats for the National Democratic Alliance headed by the BJP, with just 101 seats for the alliance led by the Congress party, which would be the ruling party's worst ever result.

Another poll, by Cicero for the India Today group, showed the NDA hitting between 261 and 283 seats. A majority of 272 is needed to form a government, although that is often achieved with outside support from regional parties. While for now exit polls is showing clear edge for BJP and its allies, one cannot jump to conclusion so early. Several national exit polls over-estimated the BJP's seat share in the last two general elections in 2004 and 2009. The ruling Congress party went on to form coalition governments on both occasions virtually negating the exit poll prediction. Whole nation is waiting patiently for May 16, when country’s fate will be decided.

Mechukha subdivision is rich in flora and fauna. Your team is the first to reach there and find out the new species of catfish. We know how much suffering your team had to face while travelling in remote areas. Appreciation goes to your team for patience and dedication.

We want to request the concerned department to kindly correct the local name of catfish called Creteuchiloglanis Payjab. The correct name of the fish "PAYJAB" is used by BOKAR,RAMO and LIBO of Mechukha Subdivision and not by Memba tribe as mentioned in the news report. Infact Memba call it "NYABE". PAYJAB is found all over Yomgo River (Siyom River) at Manigong,Pidi, Tato and Mechukha.

Lastly we want to request various other departments to came to Mechukha Subdivision and explore the hidden paradise. We want to request Botany Department of RGU to kindly study the medicinal plants found in our areas like Ophiocordyceps sinsensis of fungi kingdom and genesis name Ophiocordyceps sinensis, Genseng plants , Genus Rhodiola Rosa, (CRASSULACEAE). We expect more department of RGU to come Mechuka in near future to explore the hidden paradise.

Yours,

Lame Taluk

Arunachalee girl’s are lucky enough

Dear Editor,

The tragic story of Nigeria where more than 200 school girls was abducted on 14th April by heavily armed Boka Haram Islamist militant is beyond our imagination and a very horrible situation. Boko Haram which translates as "western education is sin" is against the women's education. Its leader Abubaker Shekar criticized the female students for being taught  "western education". There are still many places in the universe where girls are banned from going to school. But thank god that our place is not one of them. We are given equal opportunity to be educated. This is reflected in the university also where number of girls outnumber the number of boys. Now world powers including the United States and China have joined in the search operation. So, I would like to request my beloved denizens of the states to support them through your prayer. Lets us join our hand and pray for Nigeria.

Kindly ponder on this line "What if it was your daughter, sister, niece, cousin? What would you do?"

Yours,

Apilang Apum,

RGU, Doimukh
